Dominoes are tile-based games played with a domino set, a group of 28 rectangular tiles that bear identifying marks on one side and are blank or identically patterned on the other. The identifying marks, or pips, are arranged in pairs of two (like the numbers on a die) so that each domino has an equal number of marked and unmarked faces. The first player to place a domino on the board begins the game, placing it edge-to-edge against another in such a way that adjacent faces match or form some specified total.
Whether it’s a grid of colored dominoes that form pictures when they fall or a 3-D structure like a domino tower or pyramid, Hevesh carefully plans out what she wants to build and calculates how many pieces she’ll need before she starts. She might even tally up each color of domino to be sure she has enough before she starts building.
She’s also a writer, and her stories are like dominoes in their own way. Each scene must advance the story in some way, whether by moving our hero closer to or farther from a goal or by providing insight into her character’s motivation. In addition, our hero’s reaction to each new development will influence the next scene. The ratio of action to reaction (or, more technically, sequel) should be controlled so that the pace doesn’t feel too long and tedious—too much navel-gazing or inner processing—or too quick, making a story seem shallow at crucial moments.
A former government test subject, Neena Thurman aka Domino is able to shift the laws of probability to her favor. Able to use her powers as a weapon, she’s an expert martial artist and weapons technician and an excellent athlete and linguist. She’s also a skilled bodyguard and has served as the partner of the time-traveling mutant Cable.
